Village seeks public input on draft plan for policing initiative – Jan 20 at 7pm meeting

The Village of Cazenovia seeks the community’s input on our policing needs.  Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order 203 requires each local government entity with a police agency to perform a comprehensive review of the current police agency and to develop a plan to improve the agency.  The goal is to promote community engagement to foster trust, fairness, and legitimacy.

The Village published the draft of its written plan on the Village website on Monday, January 11 (see top of home page). Comments and input will be welcome via a Google survey document at this link, by mail to Cazenovia Police Commissioner at 90 Albany St, Cazenovia, NY 13035 or email to cazdepclerk@windstream.net  To keep the planning process moving, comments are requested by January 22nd.

A public meeting to receive input will be conducted by the Village Board on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at 7:00 pm.  Limited socially-distanced in-person seating will be available in the Village meeting room. For those who prefer to attend remotely, a Zoom teleconference option will be available. Carpenter’s Barn RFP

Please be advised that local non-profit, CazArts, is seeking proposals for a contractor for interior renovations at Carpenter’s Barn, a village owned property. Proposals will be accepted until November 6, 2020 and should be submitted to Lauren Lines, lines@cacda.net. Village Planning Board Meeting – Dec 14 – 7pm – ZOOM info

The Cazenovia Village Planning Board will conduct its monthly meeting on Monday, Dec 14 at 7:00 pm.

The meeting will take place in the meeting room of the Municipal Building, 90 Albany St. Attendees are asked to wear a mask and maintain social distancing.

Social Distancing Mandate

As the number of confirmed cases in Madison County has risen to 42 (with 6 in Cazenovia), protocols about social distancing are no longer a suggestion but a public health imperative.  Local law enforcement has clear guidance to engage and educate the public to ensure compliance with this vital mandate.

Village inner office closed to public, lobby and service windows open

The village inner office is closed to the public as of March 17 but staff are on duty during regular business hours to assist you via the service windows in the lobby. You can also call 315-655-3041 or email the village clerk at cazclerk@windstream.net for assistance.

Village Notice Regarding Novel Coronavirus

In response to the pending transition to remote learning by the school and other changes created by social distancing to slow the novel coronavirus, the Village encourages residents to support one another. The first line of defense for challenges such as child care and transportation should be neighbors helping one another whenever possible, a spirit that has always been incredibly strong in Cazenovia. Working in small local teams to assist with supervision of children and other needs will prevent large gatherings and limit the likelihood of transmission.

Recognizing that there will be gaps in this approach, the Village in partnership with other local agencies is preparing to meet critical needs created by the state of emergency.  Decisions by state and local leaders to close various facilities have been made very thoughtfully and we will continue to work together to serve and protect the community.

More details will be forthcoming over the next few days as the situation becomes clearer. In the near term, our individual actions with regard to hygiene and illness protocols and social distancing are our best protections to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Local agencies team up to provide coronavirus support 

In response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Cazenovia-area agencies are teaming up to create a clearinghouse for local needs and resources.

The clearinghouse will be established at the CRIS (Community Resources for Independent Resources) office located at St. Peter’s Church on Mill Street. The intent is to establish a central hub that local residents can contact for assistance with needs such as transportation, nutrition, emergency child care or other factors created by the state of emergency declared in New York. Volunteers at the office will seek to match those needs with resources available from municipal agencies, local non-profits and individual donors.

Needs related to senior citizens should use the existing CRIS telephone number (315-655-5743). CRIS already maintains an active array of services for local seniors that will be expanded to meet current conditions. Those with other needs should call 315-655-9063 (provided by St. Peter’s Church). Local agencies or individuals who have resources that may be used to serve others can call either number. The two lines will be co-located so staff and volunteers can maintain a current listing. The office will be staffed from 9 to 3 daily initially and expand its hours as needed. Voicemail for after-hours calls will be available. Emergencies should be reported to 911.

The call center will be in active communication with local partners including the village and town governments, Cazenovia Central Schools, Cazenovia College, the Chamber of Commerce and local non-profits. For those community members who find that they are in need of emergency food supplies, CazCares, our local food pantry, can meet this need and can be reached directly at 315-655-3174. CazCares has initiated a curbside pickup of grocery staples in response to the COVID-19 situation.

Local agencies or citizens who are able to provide assistance to meet needs including, but not limited to, drivers, essential supplies, emergency child care options or financial support are urged to call in. CRIS will also develop a list of ongoing resources and local providers on its website at www.cris-caz.com. CRIS can be contact at 655-5743 or director@cris-caz.com.

            NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Planning Board of the Village of Cazenovia will meet on Sept 9, 2019 at 7:00 p.m., at the Municipal Building, 90 Albany Street, Cazenovia, New York, to conduct regular business and convene the following public hearing (continued from Aug 19):

At 7:00 p.m., or as soon thereafter as may be heard, to consider the application of Housing Visions Unlimited, Inc. for a zone change from R-10 District to PDD District, as well as site plan and architectural approval, for a 70 unit senior / family housing complex consisting of a three story senior building and five two-story townhomes to be located on 14.96 acres of land east of Burton Street (Tax Map #’s 0.95.30-01-018 and 0.95.01-01-003). The project also includes infrastructure for the proposed project such as roads, sidewalks, trails, parking lots, and stormwater management.

The subject applications may be viewed at the office of the Cazenovia Village Clerk during the Clerk’s regular office hours. All interested persons will be given an opportunity to be heard on these matters.
